It is affiliated to the Committee for a Workers' International. Formed in 2009 by erstwhile members of the Communist Party of Quebec, the party was initially known as the Movement for the Socialist Party of Quebec (''Mouvement pour le Parti socialiste du Québec'', MPSQ).
